Writer’s Gallery is an event that happens twice each month in Panama City. The next one will occur Tuesday, December 18th. Michael Lowe runs the event, and answered a few questions about what it is and how you can participate.
When did the Writer’s Gallery start?
Writers Gallery began as a project by Northstar Church two and a half years ago. It has grown over the years with Nick May leading the way. When he moved to Pensacola in November, I took over.
How often do you meet?
We meet twice a month, the first and third Tuesday at Chez Amavida.
Who is welcome to participate? What type of material?
We invite all types of written word. This includes, short stories, poetry, spoken word, or reading chapters from your books. We try to stay away from music acts, as most open mic events are geared toward music.
What is your hope in growing the endeavor?
The primary goal of Writer’s Gallery is to give Panama City writers a place to read their work. We are always on the look out for new writers to come to the stage. I would like to have more of the college community join us.
Any stories you’d like to share about a moment that surprised you?
I am lucky to have been apart of writers gallery early on, and feel that every time I’ve gone to writers gallery I am lucky to always be surprised by the talent we have in Panama City.
