Exploring Entertainment in Florida's 850 & Beyond

Photographer Profile: Jonathan Minto

Jonathan Minto is both an active musician and a photographer – possibly a first in our photographer series.

Where are you based out of?
I live in Wiltshire in the U.K but I travel a lot, solely down to playing in a band and hanging out with my friends who play in bands.

What first attracted you to photography?
I grew up around photography and cameras but didn’t pick up a camera seriously until about 4 or 5 years ago I guess. I started by buying old crappy plastic film cameras, but have recently been doing lots of digital work.

When was the first time you felt like a professional photographer?
The first time I got paid.

Favorite style or subject to shoot?
I like to shoot literally anything. One day I’ll take photos of a emo band playing in a basement, the next day I’ll be taking macro photos of soap film bubbles, followed by doing some long exposures of the stars at night. It’s fun to experiment and try new things!

Favorite piece of equipment?
Probably my Canon AV-1 because it was my first SLR, or my Canon 5D MKII because it is my most expensive.

What is your dream photography gig?
A shoot with my absolute favourite band of the minute surrounded by kittens and puppies at the top of Mt. Fuji.

Any advice for others who are interested in photography?
Indulge in your interests…

Best piece of advice you got starting out?
Buy the cheapest film camera you can and go outside. The possibilities are endless.

What services do you offer?
I do portrait stuff for bands / individuals / weddings etc, photographic stuff for album artwork, tour photography…basically, I’ll take photos for you!
