Bay Invites… What is it?
Every scene comes with its issues. No town is perfect for all genres of music. All forms of the arts have their hurdles and challenges to overcome.
The thing is, you can do something about it.
Social media has created a powerful form of word of mouth. A platform that you can easily tell everyone about your favorite anything. With it you have the choice to either make an impact, or sit back and complain.
And that’s what this post is really about. A rant on my part.
So…. ahem. My name is Nikki and I want you to have an impact on the world around you.
If you are in a band you need to work to grow your scene. A scene that you support, will be there to support you. If all you do is complain without looking for solutions… you are part of the problem.
That may sound harsh, but it is the truth. We each can decide to be ambassadors of our scene or wait for someone to come in and save it for us.
One night, I was at a show and heard an on-stage rant about the state of the Panama City area scene. And while I won’t go so far to say he was wrong about everything, his attitude didn’t work for me. Instead of firing the kids up, instead of thanking those that did come out, instead of seeming to look for any solution, he moaned and mourned for something else.
That is why I created the Bay Invites facebook account. It is a stab at a solution to support the original music scene in Bay County.
It isn’t going to fix everything. It isn’t a magic wand to create the perfect scene. But what it is, is over 400 local-ish people that might go check out a show. Over 400 sets of eyeballs on each event page invite.
It isn’t my primary account. It isn’t an account for 850ME. The account’s sole reason for existence is to support the Bay County original music scene. It ‘attends’ every show and invites all of its friends to each one. Simple. Exposure.
So here is what I ask of you. Do you want a better scene wherever you live? Do something about it. Support those that are doing something about it. Support the music and venues as best you can.
