“We want one day, full of the nation’s best rock n roll music; one big party to salute our military and our troops, and that is what we are going to do.”
Greg Sutton, better known as Gonzo to listeners of 103.1 the Blaze, is bringing that party to Niceville on Saturday May 25th. The event will take place on a plat of land best known for being the long-time location of the Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival.
“The idea started around May or June of last year,” states Sutton. “We were sitting back and looking at available options and ways to help nurture the music scene around here, how we could impact that.”
The seeds of Blazefest, an all-day music festival, came from that first meeting. Headliners include HellYeah, Filter, Sevendust, Drowning Pool.
“We are fortunate that we have a good team of people working on it, which allowed us to get the line-up we have. I think it really was kind of a perfect storm of 15 years of relationships on my end, and relationships that we have within the community that let us be able to put this together and make it possible. The City of Niceville has been absolutely phenomenal to work with on this project.”
This will be the very first year of the festival, but Sutton hopes that it will be the start of something even larger, “Eventually we would like to be a two day festival.”
What’s at the heart of the festival? “We are just trying to have a little fun and play a little rock n’ roll.”
