WSRE created “StudioAmped” to produce a quality program that showcases original music.
“Most of the bands are working on or releasing new albums. We’ve got Johnny Hayes, who appeared on ‘The Voice’ this year, and two bands from the new Skate Mountain Records label in Fairhope—Jimmy Lumpkin & The Revival and The Underhill Family Orchestra,” said “StudioAmped” Executive Producer Bill Harrell.
“Two of our most popular groups from years past—Boukou Groove and Sugarcane Jane—are coming back to perform their brand new albums,” said Harrell. “We’ll also have an evening of gospel music featuring internationally known singer/songwriter Solomon Bozeman. This will be the first time we’ve had gospel music on the show.”
Harrell suggests visiting the bands’ websites and streaming their songs before attending the free concerts.
“This is a different experience than seeing these bands perform at local clubs. They are recording an hour-long concert that will last forever online. It’s a great opportunity to get their music heard,” said Harrell, “and they draw positive energy from the audience, which makes for a great show.”
“StudioAmped” airs on WSRE Thursdays at 9 p.m. followed at 10 p.m. by the award-winning public television staple, “Austin City Limits”—the longest-running music program on television. Encore presentations of “StudioAmped” air Wednesdays at 10 p.m., and past episodes can be viewed online at wsre.org/studioamped and on WSRE’s YouTube channel.
