Athletes Nationwide Slated to Compete in the 30th Annual Sandestin Triathlon on August 20
Nearly 1,000 athletes and spectators from Maryland to Texas and everywhere in-between will enjoy the tradition of one of the most scenic and celebrated triathlons in the country on Saturday, August 20.
The Annual Sandestin Triathlon at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort is recognized as one of the most notable athletic events in Northwest Florida. The first leg of the race starts on the sugar white beaches of Sandestin as athletes prepare for the half-mile swim in the Gulf of Mexico. Next, racers will bike a 20-mile course along Highway 98 and Scenic Highway 30-A. Racers will quickly return to Sandestin where they will park their bikes and complete the event by running four miles through the resort.
The Sandestin Triathlon is a USA Triathlon-sanctioned event. It is one of the area’s best events for spectators and it’s free to watch. For athletes, the triathlon requires registration and a fee to compete.
In addition to recognizing the Sandestin Triathlon winners, one contender will receive the Scott Christmas Award. After surviving a near-fatal plane accident, Scott Christmas went on to win the Sandestin Triathlon a year later in 1997. Each year, this award is presented to a participant who has faced similar experiences of bravery.

Proceeds benefit Sandestin Foundation for Kids. The Sandestin Foundation for Kids organization allows for funds to be gifted to needy children and families quickly in the event of a tragedy.
