Exploring Entertainment in Florida's 850 & Beyond
On June 9th, a group of area musicians came together under the moniker ‘the Lake Minnetonka Players’ to play Prince songs and raise money for local music education. The event was deemed an success, with a packed house at The Stage Northside and over $1000 raised for the cause.
“The response is beyond what I could have imaged,” shares organizer Don Gregory. “It has this unstoppable life of its own and I can’t wait to see where it leads to next.” Part of that is the formation of Rockin’ Hood Productions, which will continue to combine music events aimed at raising money for charitable causes.
The upcoming event is being called, ‘Purple and Paisley 2: The Gold Experience, a nod to Prince’s album released in 1995. The night includes a performance of the Purple Rain album in its entirety, as well as a variety of his other hits.
“I’ve been lucky to find a great group of musicians who have dedicated their time and heart to this project. It takes a lot of time, rehearsals, and planning to pull off an event like this – and we are adding a few new songs so it isn’t an exact repeat. We wanted to have a few surprises for anyone who attended the first Purple and Paisley,” shares Gregory of the behind the scenes planning.
“Prince left a big mark on all our lives as musicians,” explains Gregory, “and to be able to pay that forward in our own way and help the next generation of musicians – it is an honor to have a community that is supportive of an event like this.”
‘Purple and Paisley 2: The Gold Experience’ takes place Saturday July 23rd, 9pm at The Stage Northside, Pensacola.
