REIGNING NATIONAL CHAMPION METHODIST UNIVERSITY HIGHLIGHTS STELLAR FIELD FOR 2015 GOLFWEEK COLLEGIATE DIVISION III FALL INVITATIONAL AT SANDESTIN
A Total of 36 Men’s and Women’s Squads to Vie for Separate Titles
Miramar Beach, FL (Oct. 7, 2015) – A total of 36 teams will compete in the Golfweek Division III Collegiate Men’s and Women’s Fall Invitational at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort from Oct. 10-13. The teams will compete on the resort’s award-winning Raven Golf Club and Baytowne Golf Club.
This is the fourth year Sandestin was selected to host a Golfweek Collegiate Series event. Eighteen women’s teams will compete on 54 holes at the Baytowne Golf Club while 18 men’s teams will compete at the Raven Golf Club. Among the teams competing include Methodist University, the reigning Division III men’s national champions. The squad they defeated for the title, LaGrange College, is also part of the highly competitive field.
On the women’s side, Washington St. Louis and University of Texas Tyler are strong favorites and finished among the top four at the national championship tournament last May. Other contenders among the women’s field include Washington & Lee and Cathage College.
The four day tournament will challenge players on two of Sandestin’s best golf courses. According to course officials, both layouts are in pristine condition and tournament ready featuring fast greens and challenging pin positions.
“We always look forward to coming back to Sandestin for this prestigious fall event,” said Lance Ringler, Golfweek’s assistant editor and collegiate events writer. “We have some of the best D-3 teams in the nation committed to playing and it should make for some highly competitive golf and two truly fantastic golf courses.
Sandestin has been named one of the Top Golf Resorts in the country by various national media, and voted 2015 “Best Courses You Can Play” by Golfweek magazine.
