Review: House of Gold & Bones

Until recently, I have never read an entire comic book series, or for that matter written a review before….. so, I decided to do both!

Part One, of Corey Taylor’s, four issue mini-series, titled, “House of Gold & Bones”, was released on April 17, 2013, published by Dark Horse Comics.

Why does the creator’s name sound familiar? That’s right, he is a front-man for Stone Sour and Slipknot. If you are a fan of Stone Sour, then you are probably aware of the two part concept album titled “House of Gold & Bones” released October 2012. The comic series adds a visual to go along with the stories behind the songs, and in my opinion, it is an extraordinary concept album.

“Fire”, “Pain”, “Confusion” ………

In less than two hours, with feelings of confusion, anticipation, and clarity, I finished the mini-series. I could have probably read it a little quicker, if I wasn’t reading them on an app for my iPhone. I was mesmerized by an amazing blend of literature and art work. The visuals by Richard Clark and Dan Jackson were so well drawn and shaded, that the story came to life. It was as if I was watching it played out on the big screen while I was reading it.

The titles that Corey chose for each issue are pretty self-explanatory. Even as I am writing this, I am finding it difficult to put down the right words to intrigue you, yet, not give anything away. I have decided to keep it simple…. I will hint at the beginning and at the end, the rest, well, you’ll have to read it.

Part 1- The Overture
The human appears to be lost in a dream, or possibly dealing with a split personality, or maybe, having a simple flash-back?

Part 2- The Questions

Part 3- The Answers

Part 4- The Conflagration
What happens when the human is forced to make a possible life altering choice? …..

If you are one that enjoys, mystery, confusion, personality issues, struggles, and plot twists… along with the love of comics, this is one you should read! I can honestly say, this comic series has opened the doors to the Dark Horse world for me, and I hope you read it and enjoy it as much as I did!
