Late Night Local – Movie Review

Cat and mouse becomes even more dangerous when it is unclear who the cat really is.

Jessi Gotta blew our socks off with They Will Outlive Us All and is back again with this artistic black and white short. Meticulously paced, conceived, and well executed Late Night Local starts as a tale we’ve heard before: A young woman has partied too hard and now is trying to gain safe passage through the city to the comforts of her home.

With very little dialogue in place, every glance and every movement is thought through to relay a message.

The camera work is another star of the short. There are a few POV shots that put you square in the character’s shoes. It’s a nice touch that heightens the emotional uneasiness of the situation.

If you can get your hands on this short, do so. It will stick with you for all the right reasons.
