Song Review: Them Damn Kings – Shown With A Fist

What happens when you speed up a groovy doom-metal riff?  It creates the backbone of ‘Shown with a Fist’ from New Jersey-based Them Damn Kings. 

The song lives up to its name: It comes in and pummels you, never letting up through the four-minute track.  (If you watch the lyric video below, make sure you watch the middle section with a fun homage to Mortal Kombat.)

It’s one of those songs that reminds you a bit of this and a bit of that – but it manages to find its own way.  

One of the YouTube commenters calls it ‘drive fast’ music – and that’s a dang good descriptor.  ‘Shown With A First’ is heavy, fast, with a memorable guitar groove.  I’m assuming the band feels much the same as the main image of the lyric video is of a motorcycle moving forward.
