Pensacon welcomes comedy legend Vicki Lawrence for 2024

Pensacon, the Gulf Coast’s premier fan event, is proud to announce that comedy legend Vicki Lawrence has joined the lineup for its 2024 convention, set for Feb. 23-25 in downtown Pensacola.

Lawrence was a beloved member of the comedy troupe in the legendary sketch comedy series, “The Carol Burnett Show,” from 1967-1978, which continues to air in syndication to this day. For her work on the series, Lawrence received an Emmy Award in 1976.

Among the many characters she portrayed on “The Carol Burnett Show,” she originated the iconic character of Mama in 1973. Following the end of series, Lawrence spun Mama off into her own sitcom, “Mama’s Family,” launching on NBC in 1982. After two seasons on NBC, the series moved to first-run syndication in 1986, becoming the highest rated syndicated sitcom during its run, which ended in 1990.

Lawrence continues to portray Mama in one-woman shows touring around the world, and visitors to Pensacon will have their own opportunity to meet Mama, as Lawrence will appear in costume for photo opportunities.

In addition to her time as Mama, Lawrence is well known for her 1973 No. 1 pop hit, “The Night the Lights Went Out in Georgia,” as well as appearances on hundreds of episodes of game shows, including her years as host of “Win, Lose or Draw.” Younger audiences will know her from her role as Miley Cyrus’ grandmother on the hit Disney Channel series, “Hannah Montana.” More recently, she starred alongside David Alan Grier, Martin Mull and Leslie Jordan in the comedy series, “The Cool Kids.”

Lawrence joins an ever-growing lineup of celebrity guests for 2024 that also includes WWE Hall of Fame wrestler Mick Foley, comedians and actors Faizon Love and Pauly Shore, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer“ stars Charisma Carpenter and James Marsters, “Star Wars” voice actors Mat Lucas and T.C. Carson, “The Walking Dead” stars Seth Gilliam and Chandler Riggs, “American Dad!” stars Rachael MacFarlane and Jeff Fischer, multiple actors from the popular anime series “Death Note,” and from the “Terrifier” film series, David Howard Thornton, who portrays modern horror icon Art the Clown, and writer/director Damien Leone.
