Exploring Entertainment in Florida's 850 & Beyond

Mattie Kelly Takes the Park

The Mattie Kelly Arts Foundation has long been at the forefront of supporting area arts. From the long running Destin Festival of the Arts to the Concerts in the Park series – MKAF has had their hand in many area events.1981777_804224729602475_6714495155551917176_n

But this is about Concerts in the Park! After all, if the words ‘music’ and ‘outdoors’ are combined – we try to be there. It is a series of concerts, featuring both local and out of town talent, happening every Thursday from mid-May through June at the Dugas Pavilion at the Village Green in Destin. (It’s really close to Home Depot in Destin – if you are like me and need a landmark.)

It is a lovely outdoor stage set up – with a small playground tucked away in the back corner for antsy kiddos. A large area directly in front of the stage is open, to encourage dancing and crowd participation. That’s followed by a few rows of outdoor tables and chairs reserved for members and sponsors of the foundation.

But don’t worry, this is a friendly, bring your own chair event. Even better, outside food and drinks are welcome. If you didn’t come prepared for a picnic, there is food onsite provided by local restaurants and a small selection of soda, beer, and wine for reasonable prices.

Look over the artists that will be part of this year’s series… and kick yourself if you missed The Molly Ringwalds last week. http://www.mattiekellyartsfoundation.org/destinfloridaeventsconcertsvillage.html

About 850ME

850ME stands for 850 Music & Entertainment. We are based in the panhandle of Florida, getting the 850 part of our name from the local area code pre-fix. The site aims to shine a light on local, regional, and even national artists. We started with a sole focus on the music community in 2011 and in 2013 we expanded to include other forms of entertainment. We feature a growing team of talented photographers and writers - and hope you will be a part of this wonderful journey with us.
